Bikepacking Thailand: Phitsanulok to Sukothai

I wouldn’t be in Thailand if my day didn’t begin with a 7/11 stop, and getting hit on by a ladyboy. After cycling 137 km yesterday, I slept in and started cycling at 11 am.

A 60 km ride West to Sukhothai. Somehow this shorter 60km ride in the midday heat felt harder than yesterday’s ride.  When the distance is shorter you spend more time thinking about reaching the final destination and long out the journey!

On the last km, I noticed I was getting a flat tyre, my first after 400 km on the road! After arriving at my Hotel and fixing my tyre, I went to find ‘Sukhothai Noodle’, a famous local dish.

A pork-based noodle with chewy and thin rice noodles (Sen Lek), which includes sliced pork, peanuts and long green beans, balanced with lime, fish sauce and chilli, which was delicious.

Sukhothai is a UNESCO Historical Site, was the Kingdom of Siam’s founding capital city. I took a Tuk Tuk to explore the site, walking around the temples, statues and lakes, though unsure of what I was seeing, it was a beautiful place to visit.

It was strange to see other foreigners again after seeing nothing but Thai people, highways and rural areas for a week.
